What is mxenes
MXenes are a family of two-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides, written in forms such as Ti3C2Tx. They are made by selectively etching the A layer out of a precursor MAX phase, which leaves stacked, accordion-like multilayers that can be delaminated into single flakes. Surface terminations, the Tx in the formula, make the chemistry highly tunable. The combination of metallic conductivity, hydrophilic surfaces, high volumetric capacitance and strong electromagnetic interference shielding sets MXenes apart from most other 2D materials.
