Graphene 2026 highlights ICN2's commitment to 2D materials research
The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) showcased its strategic focus on 2D materials by leading multiple sessions at the Graphene 2026 conference. This involvement underscores ICN2's commitment to advancing graphene research, which is crucial for developing next-generation electronics and materials.
The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) played a pivotal role in Graphene2026, Europe's largest conference on graphene and two-dimensional (2D) materials, held in Barcelona from June 30 to July 3. As one of the event's organizers, alongside the Phantoms Foundation and other research entities, ICN2 significantly contributed to the scientific program and conference organization.
Graphene2026 featured a comprehensive scientific agenda, including keynote and invited lectures, contributed talks, poster sessions, round tables, and industrial forums. The event drew researchers, engineers, and technology leaders globally. ICN2 researchers presented their latest findings on topics such as energy materials, quantum technologies, nanomedicine, and biosensing, underscoring the strategic importance of graphene and 2D materials research at the Institute.
In addition to its scientific contributions, ICN2 maintained an institutional stand in the exhibition area. This stand allowed the Business and Innovation and Marketing, Communication and Fundraising teams to showcase the Institute's research, technological capabilities, and innovation activities. It served as a platform to engage with participants, strengthen industrial partnerships, and foster new collaborations. APEIRON Intelligence, an ICN2 spin-off, also had a stand to present its technology solutions to the graphene community.
ICN2's involvement extended to the conference organization, with ICREA Prof. Stephan Roche on the Organising Committee and ICREA Profs. Kostas Kostarelos, Aitor Mugarza, and Sergio Valenzuela on the Local Committee. Additionally, ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi participated in the International Scientific Committee.
The conference saw representation from 11 ICN2 research groups, including Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices, Atomic Manipulation and Spectroscopy, Magnetic Nanostructures, Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors, Nanomedicine Lab, Novel Energy-Oriented Materials, Physics and Engineering of Nanodevices, Thermal Properties of Nanoscale Materials, Theoretical and Computational Nanoscience, Theory and Simulation, and Ultrafast Dynamics in Nanoscale Systems.
Graphene2026 once again provided a valuable platform for dialogue, collaboration, and innovation. ICN2's contributions to this strategic event continue to drive scientific excellence and international cooperation within the 2D materials community.
