The Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre offers roll-to-roll CVD systems for continuous graphene production, processing foils up to 15 cm wide at 5 metres per hour.

Deposition and integration at Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre

The Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) is advancing the scalable growth and integration of graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) materials through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology. The center provides access to state-of-the-art CVD equipment and expert support, facilitating the transition from material discovery to commercial application.

GEIC's facilities enable the production of high-quality graphene, supporting projects from initial development to continuous manufacturing. The center offers batch production for early-stage projects and roll-to-roll atmospheric pressure CVD for scalable manufacturing, accommodating the growth of other 2D materials such as hexagonal boron nitride and transition metal dichalcogenides.

In addition to deposition, GEIC aids in the integration of 2D materials into devices, fostering collaboration across the value chain. This includes device fabrication, academic partnerships, and supply chain development, aimed at mitigating risks and accelerating the commercial adoption of these advanced materials.

The center's batch systems produce graphene at a 10 x 10 cm scale, suitable for evaluation and prototyping, while the Aixtron BM Neutron roll-to-roll CVD system supports continuous processing on foils up to 15 cm wide. This system enables organizations to scale beyond batch deposition, processing at approximately 5 meters per hour.

GEIC also supports the growth of other advanced 2D materials for prototype development. The Aixtron Novo MOCVD system facilitates the growth of materials like hexagonal boron nitride, MoS2, and WS2 on various substrates, providing flexibility for direct growth on semiconductor materials.

The center assists in refining deposition conditions and integrating 2D materials into practical applications. This includes developing lower-temperature growth routes, inline quality control, and fabrication pathways, bridging the gap between material capability and manufacturable products.

GEIC provides access to device production facilities, clean room capabilities, and advanced characterization techniques such as AFM, XPS, and TEM. These resources help organizations transition from material development to functional demonstrators and commercial opportunities.

The center's expertise in CVD graphene supports collaborative projects that address supply chain elements and drive end-to-end graphene commercialization. The team, experienced in industry, understands the collaborative efforts required to achieve successful outcomes.
