GMG achieves major milestone with on-time startup of second-generation plant

Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd. (GMG) has successfully commenced operations of its second-generation graphene production facility in Brisbane, Queensland. This development enhances GMG's capacity to supply high-quality graphene, potentially benefiting industries reliant on advanced carbon materials.

GMG achieves major milestone with on-time startup of second-generation plant

Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd. (TSXV: GMG) has announced the successful construction and startup of its Generation 2.0 Graphene Manufacturing Technology Plant in Brisbane, Queensland. The facility is projected to produce 10 tonnes of graphene annually once fully optimized. The project remains under budget, with the total capital cost expected to be at or below AU$2.3 million by the end of 2026.

The Gen 2.0 Plant is designed to be largely self-powered, utilizing renewable energy sources, an energy storage system, and hydrogen-enriched natural gas. This setup aims to enhance the plant's sustainability and operational efficiency. The remaining works are anticipated to be completed by September 2026, with full optimization expected by December 2026.

Craig Nicol, Managing Director and CEO of GMG, highlighted the importance of the Gen 2.0 Plant in expanding the company's production capacity to meet customer demand for graphene products, including those for batteries, coatings, and lubricant additives. GMG is focused on optimizing graphene quality and production volumes, as well as commissioning its energy systems and powder packing capabilities.

Jack Perkowski, Chairman and Director of GMG, emphasized the strategic significance of the plant's startup, which supports the company's growth and validates its investment in scalable, efficient graphene production technology. The plant's plasma-based manufacturing process is expected to demonstrate commercial and environmental benefits, reinforcing GMG's long-term value creation strategy.

GMG is an Australian clean-technology company specializing in energy-saving and storage solutions enabled by graphene. The company uses a proprietary process to decompose natural gas into carbon (graphene), hydrogen, and residual gases, producing high-quality, low-cost graphene suitable for various applications. GMG is also advancing the commercialization of graphene-enhanced products, such as HVAC-R coatings and lubricant additives, and is collaborating with the University of Queensland on graphene aluminium-ion batteries.
