The website, CenterforBetterFlex.org, integrates insights from biomechanics, material science, and Advanced Footwear Technology (AFT). It aims to provide the footwear industry with a comprehensive understanding of flex, foot movement, and how design influences biomechanical outcomes. The site uses standardized language and definitions to facilitate precise communication among designers, engineers, and brands. Consumers, including athletes, can also learn how their footwear interacts with their movements and why it matters.

Carbitex's flexible carbon fiber is utilized in performance footwear by brands such as FootJoy, The North Face, Saucony, and Adidas. Carbitex founder and president Junus Khan discusses the evolution of 'tune flex,' which involves specialized insoles or cushioning systems for customized arch support and flexibility. He also highlights future innovations, including AI-powered design tools.

Khan explains that Carbitex chose to make its research available to the industry to eliminate longstanding compromises in footwear design, such as the trade-offs between stability and flexibility. Advances in materials and biomechanics now allow for more intentional engineering of flex, marking a new paradigm for the industry.

The Center for Better Flex aims to make flex as well understood and intentionally engineered as cushioning, traction, or stability. The goal is to provide better language, research, and frameworks for designers, engineers, researchers, marketers, and consumers to consider flex more intentionally.

Carbitex plans to expand from a materials company to a technology and knowledge company focused on engineered flex.
