Pyrum's second German plant progresses after initial delays

Pyrum Innovations GmbH has announced progress on its tire recycling facility in Perl-Besch, Germany, following initial delays. The company had to demonstrate stable production at its Dillingen end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis plant before advancing the new project.

CEO Pascal Klein stated in a company podcast that the Dillingen plant's milling and pelletising operations have been optimized, overcoming earlier performance issues. This development has accelerated work on the Perl-Besch plant, which had slowed since its groundbreaking in November last year.

Klein explained that financial backing from investors, customers, and banks was contingent on proving the Dillingen plant's reliability. By May, Pyrum had demonstrated that all processes at Dillingen were operational, prompting financial and customer support to resume.

The Dillingen plant now produces recovered carbon black (rCB) that meets customer quality standards, along with stable oil, gas, and energy outputs. Klein highlighted this as a major achievement, noting that the remaining challenge is increasing rCB output, which will be addressed by adding two new conveying lines this summer.

During the slowdown at Perl-Besch, Pyrum engaged in a value engineering program to redesign its plants, aiming to simplify construction and reduce costs. Klein noted that while the redesign may not reduce costs below initial estimates, it helps maintain budgetary control.

The revised engineering plans are expected to be completed by the end of June, after which equipment orders for Perl-Besch will commence. The improvements will also facilitate Pyrum's upcoming projects in the Czech Republic and Greece, which were similarly awaiting stable production confirmation from Dillingen.
