Carbon fiber and TPC technologies target multiple end markets
Hexcel and TPC Technologies have expanded their product portfolio to include carbon fiber composite materials for use in commercial aircraft. This expansion is significant for the advanced carbon materials sector as it highlights the growing demand and application of carbon fiber composites in the aerospace industry.
Toray Industries, Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) showcased its advanced carbon fiber technologies at CAMX 2026, emphasizing its Torayca carbon fiber and thermoplastic prepregs. The company's U.S. divisions, including Toray Composite Materials America, Toray Advanced Composites, and Toray Performance Materials Corp., presented a comprehensive range of composite materials targeting aerospace, defense, automotive, and industrial markets.
The product lineup features carbon fiber composites utilized in commercial aircraft, defense systems, and advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft. Highlights include Torayca carbon fiber, thermoset prepregs, and Cetex and CFRT thermoplastic prepregs. These materials are designed for high-performance applications, including extreme-temperature environments in aerospace and industrial sectors.
Recent innovations include the TC1810 high-temperature preceramic system for aerospace and launch vehicles, and the 3960-FC fast-cure variant of the toughened 3960 prepreg system. Additionally, Toray introduced the Cetex TC1005 polyetherimide (PEI) unidirectional tape for aircraft interiors and EcoTerra, a bio-based flax fabric for automotive and consumer applications.
Toray supports production from prototyping to high-volume manufacturing with its integrated global supply chain and technical support network. The company operates carbon-free zones for sensitive aerospace applications, adhering to ISO 14001:2015, AS9100, and Nadcap certifications.
