GMG starts new graphene production plant

Graphene Manufacturing Group (GMG) has completed the construction and startup of its second-generation graphene manufacturing plant. Once optimized, the facility is expected to produce 10 tonnes of graphene annually.

The completion of self-power generation supply installation is anticipated by the end of this year. The Gen 2.0 Plant will primarily be self-powered, utilizing renewable energy sources, an energy storage system, and hydrogen-enriched natural gas from tail gas power generation.

Craig Nicol, Managing Director and CEO of GMG, stated, "Bringing our second-generation graphene production plant online on time and within our expected capital cost is a major milestone for GMG." The plant is set to significantly increase production capacity to meet customer demand in sectors such as batteries, coatings, and lubricant additives.

GMG has developed a graphene lubricant additive aimed at reducing fuel consumption in diesel engines. In collaboration with the University of Queensland, and with Australian Government support, GMG is advancing the research and commercialization of graphene aluminium-ion (G+Al) batteries. Additionally, GMG has created a graphene additive slurry to enhance lithium-ion battery performance.
