The company is advocating for the designation of graphene as a critical material to mitigate the defense sector's reliance on foreign-controlled graphite supplies, primarily sourced from China. Graphene production from U.S.-sourced hydrocarbon gases offers a domestic alternative, reducing exposure to potential export restrictions.
HydroGraph's graphene demonstrates enhanced material properties such as improved strength, thermal and electrical conductivity, and lubrication. These attributes are beneficial for aerospace lightweighting, electromagnetic shielding, protective coatings, and thermal management. The company's nano-scale fractal graphene ensures better dispersion, allowing significant performance improvements at low loadings, often below 0.1%.

He noted that while China's temporary suspension of export controls provides a reprieve, the underlying risk remains. HydroGraph's approach eliminates upstream exposure to China by using hydrocarbon gas instead of mined graphite.
