Malaysia secures RM7 million bioeconomy deals with Taiwan partners

Malaysia has entered into three bioeconomy agreements valued at approximately RM7 million with Taiwanese partners, focusing on insect technology, advanced biochar materials, and biotechnology products. These agreements were finalized at the Malaysia Regional Collaboration Forum, held in conjunction with BIO Asia-Taiwan 2026, with the Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation leading Malaysia's participation. Fly Technology Agriculture Sdn Bhd has signed a deal worth about RM1 million with Monster Biotech Co Ltd for the long-term supply of black soldier fly-based animal feed ingredients and biofertilizers.

MCHAR Sdn Bhd has agreed to an RM1 million contract with TCHAR Co Ltd for an initial purchase of 20 tonnes of biochar. This partnership will also assist in establishing MCHAR's proposed Malaysian manufacturing facility for black pigment and other advanced biochar materials. The plant is anticipated to commence operations in 2027, with projected revenue of RM20 million for the 2027-2028 financial year.

Additionally, Glyken Bio Products Sdn Bhd has signed a five-year memorandum of understanding valued at RM5 million with Taiwan Bansho Co Ltd to expand the commercialization of its bird’s nest-based biotechnology products in Taiwan. According to Bioeconomy Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak, these partnerships aim to diversify regional supply networks, enhance resilience, and accelerate the commercialization of Malaysian biotechnology products. The agreements align with Malaysia's strategy to attract international investment and establish itself as a key bioeconomy partner in ASEAN and East Asia.
