TCMC launches Carbonix Materials to build US graphene supply chain
TCMC has launched Carbonix Materials to develop a U.S. supply chain for graphene. This initiative aims to enhance the availability and integration of graphene in advanced carbon materials, particularly benefiting applications in composites and electronics.
Taiwan Carbon Materials Corporation (TCMC) has launched its US subsidiary, Carbonix Materials, to establish a domestic supply chain for advanced battery and thermal-management materials in New York State. Led by TCMC co-founder and CEO Dr. Yi-Jun Lin, the company has chosen Binghamton, NY as its US hub.
Founded in 2020, TCMC specializes in advanced carbon-based materials for lithium-ion batteries, thermal management systems, and graphene films for heat dissipation. These products are utilized by electronics manufacturers, energy storage developers, and research institutions in Asia and Europe. TCMC holds a technology portfolio with over 45 patents.
The creation of Carbonix is TCMC’s strategic response to changing global trade conditions, including tariffs and domestic sourcing requirements under the Inflation Reduction Act. These factors are driving demand for locally sourced battery materials and reducing reliance on China-centric supply chains. Through Carbonix, TCMC aims to fill critical supply gaps in graphite and other advanced carbon materials.
Carbonix has established its operations in Binghamton through the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator’s Soft Landing New York program and later joined its Clean Energy Incubator. The company has formed partnerships with local entities such as TYFAST and LiBama Power and is working with University at Buffalo researchers on Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) applications.
Initially, Carbonix will export materials produced by TCMC while building a US customer base. Once it secures over ten key customers, TCMC plans to set up a production facility near Binghamton. Dr. Lin notes that the manufacturing process is environmentally friendly, using only electricity and water and producing no waste pollution.
