Vink Chemicals and pyropower reach milestone for Schwerin biochar plant

Vink Chemicals GmbH & Co. KG and pyropower GmbH have celebrated a key milestone in the development of a new biochar power plant at Vink Chemicals' production site in Schwerin, Germany. The facility, which will primarily produce biochar, also generates process steam, heat, and electricity as byproducts. These byproducts will be utilized to support the energy needs of the site, where Vink Chemicals engages in the synthesis of substances and manufacturing of blends for the petrochemical industry and other technical applications.

Constructed by pyropower, the biochar power plant is integral to the Schwerin site. The energy produced will meet a substantial portion of the site's production requirements, with excess electricity being supplied to the public grid. Additionally, local heating will be available to neighboring companies within the Göhrener Tannen Industrial Park.

The plant's biomass steam generator uses waste wood from regional forest management and sawmills. The facility's three pyrolysis plants operate on untreated waste wood sourced from local suppliers, ensuring that the energy output is linked to regional wood-waste streams rather than relying on purpose-grown or imported biomass.

The expansion at the Schwerin site enhances Vink Chemicals' production capabilities, with synthesized and blended substances being utilized in petrochemical production and other technical applications. Stephan Lauer, managing director of Vink Chemicals, expressed satisfaction with the construction progress, highlighting its significance for the company's future.
