Exomad Green and Carbonfuture increase biochar carbon removal supply
Exomad Green and Carbonfuture will supply 1.1 million tonnes of biochar carbon removal by 2035, tackling Bolivia's supply issues with certified pyrolysis and comprehensive digital tracking.
Exomad Green and Carbonfuture have strengthened their partnership to secure 1.1 million tonnes of verified biochar carbon removal through 2035. This agreement aims to address high-quality supply shortages in Bolivia by combining certified industrial pyrolysis with comprehensive digital lifecycle tracking and long-term buyer delivery.
Biochar, a carbon-rich material produced from biomass decomposition in low-oxygen conditions, plays a crucial role in environmental remediation, soil improvement, agriculture, carbon sequestration, energy storage, and sustainable materials. It enhances efficiency and reduces waste while tackling climate change challenges. Exomad Green, a Bolivian biochar producer, and Carbonfuture, a digital carbon infrastructure provider, have expanded their commercial partnership to make over 1.1 million tonnes of biochar carbon removal available to corporate buyers through 2035. This agreement builds on more than 1.2 million tonnes already contracted under existing multi-year arrangements between the two companies. Carbonfuture provides the digital monitoring, tracking, and credit issuance framework, while Exomad Green manufactures the biochar by processing forestry and sawmill waste in Bolivia.
The agreement addresses a significant challenge in the voluntary carbon market: the scarcity of high-quality, independently verifiable biochar carbon removal options that meet stringent corporate delivery standards. Although numerous biochar projects are in development globally, third-party evaluations reveal that only a small fraction meet the necessary operational rigor, consistent feedstock sourcing, and robust measurement protocols. Consequently, corporate credit purchasers face procurement bottlenecks when seeking transparent, physically delivered volumes instead of speculative future capacity.
To address this supply-quality deficit, Exomad Green utilizes industrial pyrolysis facilities certified under the Puro Standard’s Biochar Methodology. This process converts agricultural and timber waste into stable biochar, which is offered to local farmers to improve soil health. Carbonfuture integrates these operations into its digital platform, providing end-to-end data transparency and lifecycle tracking for institutional buyers. This collaboration enables continuous verification and structured offtake of large volumes, bypassing the spot market and ensuring long-term delivery timelines through standardized digital verification.
As a result of this collaboration, Exomad Green has established itself as a leading global supplier of delivered durable carbon removal, having already physically delivered over 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) to date. The expanded multi-year commitment ensures corporate buyers predictable access to verified carbon removal credits through 2035. Additionally, the contract structure reflects a broader market trend toward long-term offtake agreements, stabilizing supply chains for institutional credit buyers and providing scalable project finance for industrial biochar operations in South America.
