Graphite One advances toward commercial readiness with project execution
Graphite One is targeting 25,000 tonnes per year of domestic synthetic graphite production by the fourth quarter of 2028. This development is significant for the synthetic graphite sector, potentially enhancing supply for battery and energy storage applications.
Graphite One Inc. (TSX-V:GPH) is advancing its U.S.-based battery materials strategy with significant progress in its vertically integrated graphite supply chain. The company is moving forward with engineering partnerships, site development, and permitting activities, aiming to supply battery-grade graphite materials for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
Development activities are underway at Graphite One's Conneaut, Ohio site, which offers logistical advantages such as CN rail access and Great Lakes shipping connectivity. Geotechnical drilling is complete, and environmental assessments and permitting are expected to finish by the first quarter of 2027.
The facility's development will occur in phases. Phase One targets 10,000 tonnes per year of active anode material by the fourth quarter of 2027. Phase Two aims to increase production to 25,000 tonnes per year of synthetic graphite by the fourth quarter of 2028. This phased approach supports customer qualification and manufacturing platform advancement.
Graphite One has executed an engineering contract for its Active Anode Materials manufacturing facility in Ohio. This partnership will aid in the detailed design and optimization of manufacturing systems, enhancing equipment integration, production flow, and energy efficiency.
A global production line integration provider has been engaged to ensure seamless operation of production systems at the Ohio facility, supporting future scalability as domestic graphite demand grows.
The company's strategy includes processing material from the Graphite Creek deposit in Alaska, the largest graphite deposit in the U.S., through the Port of Nome to Ohio. This integrated approach aims to reduce reliance on imported graphite and support North American battery manufacturing.
Recent policy developments, including a Pentagon report, align with Graphite One's strategy by recommending tax credits and co-investment mechanisms to strengthen domestic battery equipment manufacturing. The Graphite Creek Project is progressing under the FAST-41 federal permitting program, with a decision expected by September 2026.
Graphite One's updates demonstrate a focus on execution, with engineering contracts, production line integration, and a phased production plan advancing toward commercial-scale operations. The company targets up to 25,000 tonnes per year of synthetic graphite capacity, contributing to a domestic graphite supply chain from Alaska to Ohio.
