Levidian and Graphmatech partner to advance graphene applications for clean hydrogen

Levidian and Graphmatech announced a partnership to co-develop graphene-based polymer composites for hydrogen applications, including pipelines and pressure vessels where graphene reduces hydrogen gas leakage by up to 83%. The collaboration combines Levidian's graphene production with Graphmatech's dispersion technology, targeting a growing market for high-performance composites in the hydrogen sector.

Levidian, a British climate technology startup, has entered a strategic partnership with Swedish deep-tech company Graphmatech to advance graphene-based polymer solutions for the hydrogen sector and other rapidly growing industries.

The collaboration seeks to enhance the market adoption of graphene by integrating Levidian's graphene production capabilities with Graphmatech's modular dispersion technology. This integration aims to produce high-performance polymer-graphene composites for industrial applications, such as pipelines and hydrogen pressure vessels, where graphene can reduce hydrogen gas leakage by up to 83%.

Product development will take place in the UK and Sweden, with plans for expansion in the Middle East. Both companies established a presence in Abu Dhabi last year. Levidian is exploring sites for a new production and delivery center in the region, which will serve as a central production hub and is expected to create approximately 100 direct jobs and 150 indirect jobs. Graphmatech is actively engaging with key industries and stakeholders in the GCC region, including resin and pipe manufacturers, 3D printing, pressure vessel manufacturers, and hydrogen and energy stakeholders.

Ian Hopkins, Chief Commercial Officer of Levidian, emphasized the importance of developing high-performance, sustainable products to safely store and transport hydrogen, which is crucial for achieving net-zero goals. Dr. Mamoun Taher, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Graphmatech, highlighted the collaboration as a milestone in revolutionizing materials for sustainability, leveraging cross-industry and cross-country partnerships to drive technological progress.
