NanoXplore and VoltaXplore qualify to supply Canada's defense drone initiative

NanoXplore Inc. and VoltaXplore Inc. have been qualified as suppliers under the Government of Canada's Defence Drone Initiative (DDI) Marketplace. This qualification includes NanoXplore's graphene-enhanced composite components and VoltaXplore's graphene-enhanced lithium-ion battery cells. As part of the pre-qualified supplier pool, the companies can now engage in future opportunities related to uncrewed and autonomous systems for the Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian Coast Guard.

Rocco Marinaccio, President and CEO of NanoXplore, highlighted the significance of this qualification, stating that the company's graphene-enhanced materials and battery cells are integral to Canada's sovereign defence supply chain. NanoXplore's capabilities include producing lightweight structural components and high-performance battery cells domestically.

The Defence Drone Initiative, launched by the Government of Canada in July 2026, aims to enhance the development and production of Canadian uncrewed and autonomous systems. Managed by the Department of National Defence and the Defence Investment Agency, the DDI Marketplace connects Canadian suppliers with defence procurement opportunities through a streamlined process.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy involving a planned $180 billion investment in defence procurement over the next decade. Uncrewed and autonomous systems have been identified as a priority under Canada's Defence Industrial Strategy.
