China's Zhongfu Shenying Rises After High Performance Carbon Fiber Lines Go Live

Zhongfu Shenying commissioned three high-performance carbon fiber production lines in Lianyungang, Jiangsu on June 28, comprising a 1,000-ton/year T1100-grade aerospace line, a 5,000-ton/year 48K large-tow line, and a 600-ton/year M40 high-modulus line, as the first phase of a CNY6 billion project targeting 30,000 tons of annual capacity. The lines expand China's domestic supply of high-grade carbon fiber across aerospace, wind energy, hydrogen storage, and EV applications, reducing reliance on foreign sources for critical materials.

China's Zhongfu Shenying Rises After High Performance Carbon Fiber Lines Go Live

Zhongfu Shenying Carbon Fiber has commenced operations of three high-performance carbon fiber production lines, enhancing China's capacity to mass-produce this advanced material. These fibers are crucial for sectors such as aerospace, renewable energy, and electric vehicles.

Shares of Zhongfu Shenying [SHA: 688295], a subsidiary of China National Building Material Group, rose 4.8 percent to CNY59.22 (USD8.72) in Shanghai. The stock has increased by over 80 percent since the end of last year.

The production lines, the largest globally, are located at Zhongfu Shenying's Lianyungang facility in Jiangsu province. This marks the first phase of a project announced in January 2023, with an investment of nearly CNY6 billion (USD822.6 million) to achieve an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons of high-performance carbon fiber.

Carbon fiber, with over 90 percent carbon content, offers a density less than a quarter of steel while providing seven to 10 times higher tensile strength. It also surpasses all chemical fibers in high-temperature resistance.

Jiangsu’s Vice Governor Shen Jianrong highlighted the project's significance for China's carbon fiber industry, noting its role in overcoming technological barriers and advancing the sector globally. The new facilities include a T1100-grade product line for aerospace, a 48K large-tow line for renewable energy and electric vehicles, and an M40 high-modulus line for precision equipment and consumer products.

CNBM Chairman Zhou Yuxian stated that the launch represents a milestone in high-end product development and large-scale manufacturing for China's carbon fiber industry. The facilities use flexible manufacturing technology to produce various carbon fiber grades, enhancing Zhongfu Shenying's product portfolio and market competitiveness.

The expansion is expected to significantly boost Zhongfu Shenying's market share and competitiveness across multiple downstream application sectors.
