R&M International Acquires Vartega

R&M International Sales Corporation (“R&M”), a family-owned recycler of raw materials in continuous operation since 1977, today announced that it has acquired Vartega's patented carbon fiber recovery technology along with the technical know-how and processing capability to produce Vartega's EasyFeed Bundles at a scale of up to 1,000 tons annually. The acquisition positions R&M to continue production of a proven, sustainable supply of recycled carbon fiber for thermoplastic compounders and the manufacturers they serve.

EasyFeed Bundles are engineered feedstock that let compounders and molders substitute recycled carbon fiber (rCF) in place of virgin carbon fiber in commodity, engineering grade, and high-performance thermoplastics. Produced from reclaimed and recycled carbon fiber that would otherwise be difficult to reuse, the bundles are formatted for consistent handling and dispersion in injection molding and additive manufacturing, and are compatible with a broad range of resins — from polypropylene, nylons, and polycarbonate to high-temperature systems such as PEEK. By replacing virgin fiber with recycled material, EasyFeed Bundles help manufacturers lower cost and reduce the carbon footprint of their finished parts without sacrificing structural performance.

The material supports major electric and internal combustion engine automotive programs where leveraging recycled carbon fiber reduces weight, improves efficiency, and addresses expanding sustainability targets. Lightweighting is a priority across the industry, and recycled carbon fiber offers composites performance benefits at an accessible cost and lower environmental impact.

For R&M, the move is a natural extension of a nearly five-decade legacy. R&M has built its reputation on recovering, repurposing, and returning raw materials to productive use. Applying that discipline to carbon fiber, one of the most energy-intensive structural materials in industry,  allows R&M to carry Vartega's mission forward.

"Recycling and repurposing raw materials has been our family's work for nearly fifty years, and carbon fiber is one of the most valuable materials there is to keep in circulation," said Stephen Rawson, co-owner of R&M International Sales Corporation. "By acquiring Vartega's patented technology and the capability to produce 1,000 tons a year, we're not just adding a product line, we're carrying forward Vartega's vision and giving compounders and automakers a dependable, sustainable source of recycled carbon fiber they can build on. It's the right material at the right time, and it fits everything our family has stood for since 1977."

"I am so proud of the Vartega team and their tireless efforts to advance sustainable composites over the past 12 years," said Andrew Maxey, Founder of Vartega. "I’m also grateful for the amazing customers and stakeholders that have supported us along the way. As our team explored the next chapter for Vartega, we wanted to find a partner that shared our vision of the future. R&M brings nearly five decades of recycling expertise and a genuine commitment to circularity. I am very excited about their commitment to continue to invest in the Vartega technology and I look forward to seeing them reach more customers as they expand impact of recycled carbon fiber."
