Asbury Advanced Materials completes Graphit Kropfmühl acquisition, expands globally

Asbury Advanced Materials has finalized its acquisition of Graphit Kropfmühl GmbH from AMG, enhancing its global graphite operations and strengthening its capabilities in engineered carbon materials through improved mining, processing, and application development.

This acquisition aligns with Asbury's strategy to expand its advanced materials platform, following its recent rebranding as Asbury Advanced Materials. The integration of GK into Asbury's global operations adds vertically integrated graphite sourcing, specialized processing expertise, and a wider international manufacturing presence.

The combined entity leverages over 250 years of experience in carbon materials and engineered solutions, forming a larger platform to serve industrial and high-performance applications. This integration also boosts Asbury's technical resources and application development capabilities, supporting customers needing specialized carbon and graphite materials for demanding manufacturing environments.

Graphit Kropfmühl brings a globally recognized graphite business with mining, processing, and technology operations across Europe and Asia, supported by approximately 390 employees. The acquisition enhances Asbury's control over the graphite value chain, from raw material sourcing to processing and engineered material production, providing greater supply chain control and manufacturing flexibility.

As part of the integration, Asbury will consolidate its European operations by transitioning its Netherlands manufacturing and commercial activities under the Graphit Kropfmühl brand. The business will operate as GK Netherlands – A Division of Asbury Advanced Materials, creating a unified operating structure across Europe while maintaining continuity for customers, suppliers, and commercial partners.

The integration is expected to enhance Asbury's ability to offer a broader portfolio of engineered carbon and graphite products while expanding its global supply capabilities. By combining complementary technical expertise and manufacturing operations, the company aims to improve collaboration on material development and support customers with specialized solutions across various industrial markets.

Founded in 1895 and headquartered in Asbury, New Jersey, Asbury Advanced Materials supplies over 2,000 grades of carbon, graphite, coke, and specialty materials for applications including polymers, rubber, paints and coatings, lubricants, specialty ceramics, friction products, and thermal insulation. Prior to the acquisition, the company operated eight manufacturing facilities across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Netherlands, supported by sales offices throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, with a workforce of over 600 employees.

The addition of Graphit Kropfmühl expands Asbury’s international manufacturing and processing capabilities, reinforcing its strategy of building a vertically integrated advanced materials platform focused on engineered carbon products for industrial and technology-driven markets.
