Avanco Composites has introduced a Type 4.5 pressure vessel that uses thermoplastic composites to match the polymer in the plastic liner with the matrix system in the overwrap. This fusion allows for enhanced storage solutions, particularly benefiting applications that require lightweight and efficient carbon fiber-reinforced structures.
Avanco Composites (Herford, Germany) has introduced a Type 4.5 pressure vessel that utilizes thermoplastic composites (TPC) to enhance storage applications. Unlike conventional Type 4 vessels, which use a plastic liner overwrapped with carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy composite, the Type 4.5 vessel integrates the polymer in the plastic liner with the matrix system in the TPC overwrap. This integration allows for fusion between the liner and overwrap, offering additional benefits for advanced storage solutions.
The development of the Type 4.5 pressure vessel is made possible through Avanco's laser-assisted thermoplastic tape winding technology. This approach facilitates the creation of lightweight, efficient, and scalable storage solutions, meeting the demands of future applications.
